REIKI: WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?
In energy healing treatments, the Reiki practitioner will transmit Reiki to you through a series of hand positions. For a in-person (face-to-face) session, a client would either lie down face-up fully clothed on a massage table or sit in an upright chair while the practitioner proceeds to place his/her hands either on the body or one to two inches above the top of head, face, neck/throat, ears, shoulders, heart, hands, stomach, abdomen, knees and feet - just to name a few key hand placements.
As a reminder, the practitioner is not the source of life energy, they are simply a vessel through which it flows. How long the hands transmit energy over any particular area could range from a few seconds to upwards of five minutes or even more if deemed necessary by the Reiki practitioner. This same approach can also be used remotely for transmitting a distant healing Reiki session. In that case, the practitioner would visualize the client in an energetic form or use a photograph (if provided).
Whether you receive your Reiki treatment near or far, you may feel a warm glowing radiance flow through the body. For many, it is a very relaxing experience and some clients report the body feeling heavy as it begins to relax while one's spirit and/or emotions ae lifted. Aside from warmth and relaxation, others might feel a different range of sensations, such as tingling, sleepiness, or invigoration, along with heat, cold, or pulsing. Ultimately, a treatment aims to help a client release negative feelings or thoughts leaving her/him feeling more positive, light-hearted, and with feelings of well-being.

DOES REIKI WORK FOR EVERYONE?
While almost everyone experiences relaxation and improvements of various kinds during a Reiki session, emotional or physical sensations along with healing results cannot be guaranteed. It should be duly noted Reiki should be used in conjunction with medical or psychological care performed by a licensed physician or other licensed health care professional. Reiki energy works in harmony with other forms of healing, including prescription drugs, surgery, psychological care and the like. Nevertheless, please don't be discouraged if you do not feel anything either. This is not necessary a reflection on you. As a healing energy from a Higher Source (God), Reiki will continue to do its subtle work on all levels on your behalf.
Please bear in mind that Reiki is about healing on different levels - emotionally, psychologically, physically, and spiritually. A natural part of this process involves facing your shadows (of the past, present, and/or future). If you are one who doesn't feel anything or has a negative experience, this is also a natural part of the process. Pay attention to your moods and emotions and increase your water intake. Within a few hours (or day), you will begin to experience the positives that Reiki has to offer. Please know that Reiki is a process not a "one-time fix" and therefore multiple sessions to help deal with various issues on all levels on one's life. Between you and your practitioner, you'll sense when the work is done and no more Reiki sessions are needed at that time.
